> A flame detector is a sensor designed to detect and respond to the presence of a flame or fire
> It respond faster and more accurately than a smoke or heat detector
> There are 2 types of flame detectors based on working principle Infrared and Ultraviolet flame detectors
Must Read > SOLAS Regulation of fire Detection System
Infrared Flame Detectors
> It consists of lens, photoelectric cell, amplifier
> When there is a fire lens converge all the radiation to photo electric cell, which transmit signal to amplifier and amplified signal goes to trigger the alarm.
Ultraviolet Flame detector
> Consists of gas filled tube sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, amplifier and relay
> When ultraviolet radiation strikes a gas filled tube it ionizes the gas and generates a small current in the electrode of the gas filled tube. Amplifier amplifies these small current and sends them to the relay connected. Relay get activated when the current goes beyond the set value and rise the alarm
Would appreciate a more detailed explanation and reference to relevant SOLAS regulations
