Difference between Synchronous & Asynchronous Motor?

Difference between Synchronous & Asynchronous Motor

Synchronous Motor Asynchronous motor
(Induction Motor)
Construction Complicated Construction Simpler
Not Self Starting Self Starting
Separate DC source is required for rotor excitation Rotor Get excited by the induced emf so seperate source is not required
speed control is not possible speed control is possible but difficult
Speed is always synchronous irrespective of load speed is always less than synchronous but never be in synchronous
Motor is Very sensitive to sudden changes in load, hunting results Hunting is absent
Motor is costly required frequent maintenance Motor is cheap, maintenance less frequent
It can be used as a synchronous condenser for PF improvement Cannot use as a synchronous condenser
